Warrant ofArrest is the first Ukrainian Soviet film that thematises the traditional silence of women. Nadiia is forced to speak, but her habit of keeping her mouth shut helps her resist the rational world of men and war. Despite its aura of entertainment – spying, psychological torture, the romance of revolutionary committees – Warrant ofArrest is at the same time a reflection on the emancipation of women and their role in the historical and social processes of civil war.

Screening of Warrant ofArrest (1926) with live performance by Vagonovozhatyie.
